The Meaning of 15 and 70

2017 marks the 15th year since the launch of the Caring Company Scheme (“the Scheme”) by HKCSS. Collaborating with over 480 social service organisations on more than 4,500 collaborations, 3,478 companies and organisations have been nominated for the Caring Company / Caring Organisation Logo awards. Corporate social responsibility has been practiced by 831 awardees for over 10 years, among which 115 have been engaged in the field for more than 15 years. Through partnerships with the community, these awardees have donated HKD430 million to support various social programmes, committed to 210,000 hours of voluntary work, and provided 9,637 employment opportunities for the vulnerable groups!

In the past 15 years, we grew with companies and organisations, and witnessed the development of a caring culture in Hong Kong. Together, we created a more diverse and harmonious society.

This year, we also celebrate our 70th anniversary. Ever since the end of World War II, HKCSS has created various platforms to unify our society in tackling different social issues. Not only do we connect with more than 400 social services organisations to satisfy the diverse needs of the 7 million people in Hong Kong, we also bring together professionals, sponsors and volunteers from different sectors to support the advancement of social services.

With HKCSS’s 70 years of commitment and the Scheme’s 15 years of innovation, we proudly believe that civil society is an important pillar for the development of Hong Kong. We are delighted to see that our Government has attached great importance to this pillar. Over the years, the Government has been consulting with society and HKCSS during the formulation of different social policies. In the next 10 years, we are ready to face the rapid aging of the population in Hong Kong. We will continue to advocate the implementation of long-term and community-based elderly services by the Government, facilitate social innovation, and encourage businesses and social organisations to build an elderly-friendly community.

We expect many challenges in the future, yet, along with these challenges come infinite opportunities. Through innovation and application of technology, we can solve social issues by bringing people closer together and thinking more innovatively. Thus, more and more people can share the benefits of economic development. In the next 10 years, we will continue to work with different sectors in our society and endeavor for positive social development.

Finally, on behalf of HKCSS and the more than 400 social service organisations, we would like to express our greatest gratitude to all the Caring Companies and Caring Organisations.
