Forum on “Poverty Alleviation and the Role of the Business Sector”

The Hong Kong Council of Social Service and Bauhinia Foundation Research Centre jointly organised a forum on u0022Poverty Alleviation and the Role of the Business Sectoru0022 on June 14, 2013. The forum aims at providing constructive recommendations on how the business sector could extend the breadth and depth of its poverty reduction work in addition to giving donations, was a follow-up of the Centre’s recent study on u0022Poverty Alleviationu0022. Nearly 200 participants coming from Business and Social Services sectors attended.

The forum brought together renowned experts, decision makers and opinion leaders to explore different aspects of the issue. With Chief Secretary and Chairperson of the Commission on Poverty Carrie Lam addressed the forum by delivering opening remarks, while Chief Executive of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service Christine Fang, Chairman of the Community Care Fund Task Force under the Commission of Poverty Dr Law Chi-kwong, Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce Pang Yiu-kai and Lecturer of CUHK’s Faculty of Social Science Division of Global Political Economy Stephen Wong took part in a Panel Discussion chaired by the Centre’s Vice-chairman Lau Ming-wai. Besides, a Case Sharing Session moderated by Cliff Choi, Business Director (Public Engagement and Partnership) of The Hong Kong Council of Social Service, where representatives of large corporations and SMEs had been invited to share their experiences in helping the underprivileged to build and strengthen their capacities as what we called u0022Asset Buildingu0022.
